Learner Outcomes:

  • Be able to discuss the merits of a systematic approach to evidence evaluation
  • Be able to use simple systematic tools such as PICO to structure the analysis of a paper
  • Be able to understand the importance of a quality assessment

Arguments will be presented supporting the claim that a systematic approach to scientific literature is paramount to reach meaningful conclusions about evidence, and the main differences between systematic methods vs. non-systematic ones (e.g. narrative reviews) will be explained. Lastly, diving into the specific steps of an ideal systematic review, exemplifying each step by using our own systematic review on essential oils and viruses.
