the Future of Clinical Aromatherapy
The Alliance of International Aromatherapists’
first International Clinical Aromatherapy Conference and Wellness
Expo was held October 18th - 21st in Denver, CO. With the theme,
Celebrating the Past, Creating the Future of Clinical Aromatherapy,
a number of distinguished international speakers presented on a
variety of topics including: world sources of essential oils, analysis
for purity, safety issues, research, pediatric and palliative care,
and the lymphatic system and how it relates to aromatherapy.
Robert Tisserand was honored with a Lifetime Achievement
Award for his past educational and organizational contributions
to the on-going development of the art and science of aromatherapy
and the current revision of the Essential Oil Safety Manual, available
in 2008.
The Expo vendors offered an eclectic selection of
aromatherapy products and related items supporting holistic wellness
and included lectures for the public. Four independent post-conferences
were held on a variety of specialty topics by leaders in aromatherapy.
New
officers were elected at the Annual Membership Meeting. Lora Cantele
was elected President-Elect; Debbie Freund, Nicola McGill, Linda
Weihbrecht and Jackie Farnell were elected as new Board Directors
and Nancy Graves as Secretary. A Clinical Aromatherapy Standard
of Practice was unanimously passed by the membership.
The
Conference Proceedings Manual is available through the AIA office
at 303-531-6377. The next AIA conference will be held in the Chicago
area, October 15-18, 2009.
