Challenges Facing Aromatherapy: Proof of Safety
Robert Tisserand
Evidence of safety is an ongoing challenge in any sphere of therapy. In aromatherapy the challenges include insufficient data, adverse data, biased interpretation of data, new legislation and misinformation. Carcinogens, tertogens and allergens are principal areas of concern. Reasons for confusion, areas for debate and some possible ways forward will be explored.

Sourcing Essential Oils, Conservation, Quality Issues and Myths
Tim Blakley
I think the subtitle to this presentation could be, ‘Where do our oils come from, are they any good, and do we do business well’. The essential oil business in the USA is still relatively young and going through many growing pains. Since oils come from all over the world sourcing is a significant challenge. It would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to visit all of the growers/distillers supplying any single company. So, we do farm visits whenever possible and after that we have to rely on what information we can get from our suppliers. How can we verify that our suppliers are producing quality oils in a sustainable manner?

Closing Keynote - Moving Aromatherapy Forward with Vision and Action
Raphael d'Angelo, MD, NMD, MT
As aromatherapists, we have a grand opportunity to create the future of clinical aromatherapy in our country which will have a positive impact on the holistic delivery of health care in the USA and abroad. My talk will cover our present situation; the goals that lay ahead; and the means of realizing them. Metaphorically, I will show how we can steer the course while avoiding potholes, braking for danger, taking detours, and when necessary traveling “off road” to arrive at our destination.

Research on the Use of Aromatherapy in Alzheimer's Care
Jackie Farnell, LMT
Excerpts from the study are offered: Although eleven facilities initially elected to participate in the study, four facilities remained throughout the entire full study. Three different oil blends were tested among these four homes. One blend, Restore Peace, was tested in two of the homes. Of the remaining two facilities, one tested Helps Insomnia and Pain and one tested Promote Alertness.

Conducting Clinical Research in Aromatherapy
Debbie Freund, RN
Aromatherapy research is the key to taking our world of aromatic healing to the next level of acceptance in the general health care community. A broad range of pertinent subjects pertaining to clinical aromatherapy will be explored as well as how to go about setting up your possible research subjects. Highlights of up to date current research in the area will be touched upon in this lecture.

Neuro-Endocrine Uses of Essential Oils
Peter Holmes, LAc, MH
Essential oils are well known to possess the ability to modulate chemical and hormonal messengers through stimulation of the limbic system. Scientific research has laid a good foundation for understanding and harnessing their neuroendocrine dynamics. However, the challenge now is how these functions are to be applied in the context of the treatment intentions we formulate in clinical practice.

The Triangle of Health
Jennifer Jefferies, ND
Through the Triangle of Health you will learn how the effects of emotional and subtle stresses in life influence our physical being and how the subtle properties of essential oils can help to rebalance the triangle and prevent illness.

The Value of Essential Oil Analysis
Larry Jones
Essential oil purity and quality is vital to essential oil therapy and should be the corner stone to any future expansion of Aromatherapy into a therapeutic setting.

Your Lymphatic System, Immunity and How it Relates to Aromatherapy
Linda-Anne Kahn, HHP, CIDESCO, CLT-LANA
In this exciting lecture we will discuss a multifaceted approach to boosting the immune system. We will discuss the lymphatic system, Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), essential oils and carrier oils used to strengthen the lymphatic system, detoxify the tissues and boost immunity. We will also explore how stress, dry brushing and supplements play a role in maintaining a healthy lymphatic system and how they have a positive effect on the immune system.

Psychoneuroimmunology, guided imagery, exercise and rebounding will also be discussed. Aromatherapy and manual lymph drainage together create a powerful synergy which can treat many conditions and imbalances such as lymphedema, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and other autoimmune disorders.

Energy Fields: Insights and practices for individual,
community, global and planetary healing
Krishna Madappa
We are indeed in the most dynamic period of our intrinsic evolution as the layers of our conditioned behaviors start to unfurl. Sharing a wisdom thought “What is within us is perfection, what is without is imperfection. The outer world can have perfection only when the inner world inspires, guides, moulds and shapes the outer world.”

We will explore the essence of inspirations from wisdom cultures to present day bio-photonics that we are pure beings of light and that every cell of the 50 trillion in the human is a living brilliant universe.

We shall also explore some daily practices that continue to be conveyed by teachings of our vital purpose of being, with some case studies that illustrate these noble and time honored disciplines.

We will also know that real existence, real knowledge and real love are eternally connected. Where one of these resides, the others follow. With these eternal truths imprinted in every cell of our being, brilliance is the luminous particle that is wholly embodying us and in all our actions originating from thought and is then empowered for a singular purpose.

College Based Aromatherapy Education
Sharon Tessier, MA, CMT, IAC
It is exciting to be a particle in this wave of Integrated Wellness. The gap in health care is truly being bridged. The Integrated Therapeutic Practices Program at Metropolitan State College of Denver as well as the new certificate program in aromatherapy are just a couple of programs that have shown that our public is ready to receive this type of education and healing. A short demonstration of how an integrated approach is used in the classroom will be presented.
